An Introduction

The story of a hero. Well, a hero isn’t everyone. What about the rest? Are they losers? Maybe they are just normal people. But what about the ones who believe they are born to live the story of a hero? Perhaps, a misguided soul? Here’s to a story of a loser.

What Is It?

It is a piece of fiction, rather, echoes from forged souls. This, I feel, is the way to connect with one another, through a play. Here anything can be, doesn’t have to be.

Inspiration

Kafka’s Metamorphosis, The character Griffith from Kentaro Miura’s Berserk, Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, and I.

Prologue

There lived a boy, like many. Held above all, like some kind of a gift from the god. Even though a boy, what he is becomes is destined to become evident quite soon.

The boy lived. He was no gift. He was just like the rest. Quite a step down from the past status, eh? Maybe get used to it.

Next thing he knew, was the possibility of being that gift, to society, to mankind. What can be greater than this? What else should you even live for?

Knowing the possibility, now it’s the only thing to chase. The drive is so powerful, that one loses vision completely. Here begins “The Dream”.

An Introduction

Dylan, he is a late bloomer. Got nothing going on. Just another kid.

Well, that’s not completely true. Everyone’s got something going on. For Dylan, it was “Morality” I guess. Keeps him under the green light. Keeps him out of trouble.

That’s boring, isn’t it? He’s fine with boring. But “The Dream” doesn’t let him stay where he is. He must move. Must become the “Gift”.

Where things were really bad, they seemed to get a bit more okay. If you put effort into something, it pays off.

The Blinding Star

The Blooming of a Late Flower finally took place and shaped Dylan’s world. He got way more than he could imagine. More power, more attention, more attraction. And he was all about it. Only one social police, “Morality”.

The Other Side

Everything came, but they came with a reality check for Dylan. It was all just like he imagined, but he felt like he didn’t deserve any of it. And the thing about achieving a lot in a short while is, it fades away even faster. There, nothing was real anymore.

Where All Hopes Lie

All the burden was easy to let go through helping others. Dylan picked it up pretty quick. Romanticism became the medium to forget the chaos and suffering within.

The Limitless, The Unstoppable

But the power, the attention, the attractiveness, was all there. None was there to stop Dylan from using all of those to bury the emptiness inside. The loneliness grew, and so grew the longing.

A Leap Of Faith

Having all one could ever imagine to have, Dylan took a leap of faith towards the hope. If this wasn’t his hope, then none was. This hope made him forget his “Dream”. He chose the hope.

The Broken

It was a shot worth taking, but didn’t work out for our Dylan. Let’s just say it could get any worse. Dylan lost his love, now a heartbroken man. Who can be more broken? I say no one!

The Failure

Dylan saw his pieces scrambled on the ground. Tried to pick them up and fix this mess. Eventually, something has to become of that. The tries feel harder and harder. The will to live decreases. Still, he hasn’t lost one thing. His “Morality”. And deep inside the heart, the corpse of his “Dream” is still there.

Epilogue

What will one do with a deep heart? Asking this doesn’t make him more human. He wanders around, searching for meaning. Meaning for his suffering, meaning for the fate he was dealt. Now it’s clear to him. It was no hero’s journey. It is loser’s. At least for now.

The Last Whisper

Suffering, it’s not so unknown after all. For a misguided soul, it’s almost all he knows.
